If you do not have a microwave at home, you can filled the Growth bottle with 500 ml of boiled water instead in EXPERIMENT 1 Step 2, then continue the subsequent step by emptying Nutrients tube A into the Growth bottle, close the lid and shake the water well until all powder has been completely dissolved. Then, allow the Growth bottle to cool down before continuing Step 6, you may place the Growth bottle in the fridge to help it cool faster!
There are 2 cotton swabs provided inside the Kit because young scientists would need to use both apparatus separately in EXPERIMENT 1 and EXPERIMENT 2. To prevent cross contamination, it is suggested to use a new cotton swab to conduct your EXPERIMENT 1 and EXPERIMENT 2.
Yes it is absolutely fine to have some sediments of Nutrients A powder in your Growth bottle! Small amounts of sediments would not affect the experimental results.
The powder is BBM (Bold's Basal Medium) powder, which is a type of micronutrient that contains a variety of essential nutrients, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, iron, and trace elements, that are necessary for algae to grow and thrive. These nutrients are required for processes such as photosynthesis, cell division, and the production of proteins and other cellular components in plants and microalgae.
Algae are autotrophic organisms, meaning that they are capable of producing their own food through photosynthesis. However, in order to do so, they require a source of essential nutrients. BBM powder provides a balanced mix of nutrients that is specifically designed to support the growth of algae, making it an important component of algae growth media.
Without BBM powder or a similar nutrient mix, the growth of algae can be limited or even inhibited, potentially leading to poor yields or reduced biomass production. Therefore, BBM powder is an important tool for researchers and growers who are looking to optimize the growth of algae for various applications, such as biofuels, food supplements, and wastewater treatment.

Yes definitely! You can follow the procedures of smear preparation in EXPERIMENT 2 to prepare your own specimen and observe it under the microscope. Do not forget to make the specimen thin and cover it with the cover slide provided!
