Live Spirulina Culture
Freshly harvested, laboratory-grade Arthrospira platensis for growing algae at home, lab research, microbiology classes, and school projects. This live spirulina culture is grown under controlled conditions and offers a viable starting point for microalgae growth studies. Spirulina contains phycocyanin, chlorophyll, essential amino acids, and antioxidants, and is a useful model for sustainable biotechnology.
What’s included
- 50 ml culture: AlGreen proprietary scale-up nutrient powder for 2 L of growth.
- 100 ml culture: Enough nutrient powder for 4 L of growth.
- 500 ml culture: Enough nutrient powder for 10 L of growth.
The included AlGreen nutrient blend is antifungal in nature and formulated to support fast, high-yield spirulina growth.
How to grow and maintain live spirulina
- Start on arrival: Transfer the culture to a clean container sized for your target volume. Add water and the included AlGreen nutrient powder. Drinking water is ideal; tap water can also work.
- Give it ambient light: Place it near a windowsill or under artificial LEDs. Avoid strong direct sunlight, especially in the afternoon.
- Shake daily: Shake 5–6 times a day. Gentle aeration or stirring also supports growth.
- For ongoing lab culture: Maintain at 20–35 °C with 12–16 hours of light daily, and subculture every 7–14 days.
Uses for live spirulina culture
- Lab and university research: Growth kinetics, photobioreactor studies, biomass yield, pigment extraction, nutraceutical analysis, and wastewater bioremediation trials.
- School and microbiology projects: Observe algae growth or give each student a living “liquid plant pet” for purification demonstrations.
- Home gardening: Explore grown spirulina as an organic liquid fertilizer concentrate.
- Aquaculture: Fish feed development and related research.⠋
